Andy Murray will be back in Novak Djokovic’s coaching team as the Serbian star aims to claim his first Indian Wells title in nearly a decade.
Murray’s management confirmed that the 37-year-old Scotsman flew to California on Monday to resume his coaching role with the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
Djokovic initially brought Murray on board ahead of the Australian Open this year, where he reached the semifinals before being forced to retire against Alexander Zverev due to an injury. Since then, Djokovic’s only match was a loss to Italian Matteo Berrettini in Doha last month, a match Murray did not attend.
Now, Djokovic is set to compete at both Indian Wells and Miami — the Sunshine Double — for the first time since 2019. With five titles at Indian Wells and six at Miami, Djokovic shares the record for the most titles at these Masters events with Roger Federer and Andre Agassi. However, he has not won either since 2016.
Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, retired after the Paris Olympics last year and surprised the tennis world when he announced he would be coaching Djokovic during the Australian Open.
In Qatar last month, Djokovic commented, “It’s indefinite in terms of how long we are going to work together, but we agreed we will most likely work in the States and then at some clay-court tournaments to see how it goes after.”
Indian Wells kicks off this week, with the Miami Open following on March 19.
