Australian Golfer Jeffrey Guan Vows to Return to the Course After Losing Vision in One Eye Due to Freak Accident

Australian golfer Jeffrey Guan, who made his PGA Tour debut in September, is determined to return to the game after a tragic accident left him blind in one eye. The 20-year-old was struck in the face by a golf ball during a pro-am event at Catalina Golf Club in New South Wales, just a week after his debut.

Guan shared the details of the accident on social media, explaining that after taking a shot, he turned toward his golf cart to store his club when the ball hit him. The impact left him with immediate pain and disorientation, and he was soon transported by ambulance to a hospital.

He was airlifted to Canberra for surgery, followed by additional procedures in Sydney, and spent two weeks in intensive care. Doctors confirmed that the young golfer had suffered fractures to his eye socket and lost all vision in his left eye, a loss that the PGA of Australia has stated is permanent.

Despite the devastating news, Guan has expressed gratitude for the support he’s received and is resolute in his determination to return to the sport. He shared his mental and emotional struggles during his recovery, admitting that the situation had brought feelings of depression and anger, but he remains optimistic.

“I will be back,” he vowed in his statement, stressing that the challenges have only made him mentally stronger and ready to face future obstacles.

An online fundraiser has been set up to help Guan through his recovery, with the goal of raising 500,000 Australian dollars to support his journey back to competitive golf. As of now, the campaign has raised over 9,000 Australian dollars.

Guan, a two-time junior national champion, had been on the verge of a breakout in the professional game and hopes to fulfill his dreams of competing at the highest level once again.
