Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links GC and Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf have both been eliminated from the inaugural season of TGL, failing to secure a spot in the playoffs.
Despite co-founding the new part-virtual league, both Woods and McIlroy were unable to lead their teams to the top four.
McIlroy’s Boston team needed to defeat New York Golf Club on Monday to advance to the playoffs but suffered a 10-6 defeat. New York’s Cameron Young, Rickie Fowler, and Xander Schauffele delivered a strong finish, scoring five points in the last four holes to seal the victory.
Boston required two points on the final hole to force overtime, but Schauffele kept his composure, chipping in from seven feet to secure the win.
According to ESPN, Fowler said:
After the start we had, just coming into the season, (the goal) was trying to get in the playoffs. After going 0-2, we were just trying to dig and find something. We’re just starting to find some form, so it’s good timing.
As a result, Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links GC is now unable to make the postseason, with only one regular-season match left against Atlanta Drive GC on Wednesday.
New York will now face Los Angeles Golf Club in the playoffs, while The Bay Golf Club will meet Atlanta Drive. The semifinals are set to take place on March 17-18, with the final scheduled for the following week.
