Deion Sanders’ Health Update and Colorado Buffaloes Outlook Heading into 2025 Season
Colorado Buffaloes head coach and Hall of Fame defensive back Deion Sanders has been the focus of health concerns throughout the offseason. For several weeks, Sanders has been dealing with an unspecified medical issue that limited his participation in spring and summer workouts, as well as team camps. He also missed several team activities in Colorado due to the ongoing health matter.

Despite these challenges, Sanders has provided brief but optimistic updates. On July 9 during Big 12 Media Days, he stated, “I’m already back. I’m here today. I’m handling my responsibilities. So, I look forward to it. I can’t wait. You’ve got to understand, some of the young [players] I haven’t even met yet. I’m so excited about that.” More recently, in a video posted by his son on July 20, Sanders admitted, “You know I’m still going through something… I ain’t all the way recovered.”

Sanders’ health has previously been in the spotlight, as he has contended with blood clot issues and underwent two toe amputations on his left foot in recent years. This offseason, however, the details of his current condition have remained largely private.

A press conference is scheduled for Monday, where Sanders will appear alongside his medical team, as well as representatives from CU Anschutz and UC Health. The event is expected to provide general and team updates, and may offer more clarity regarding Sanders’ health status and his involvement with the program as he prepares for his third season as Colorado’s head coach.

On the field, the Buffaloes face additional changes for the 2025 season. Key players such as Travis Hunter, selected second overall in April’s NFL Draft, and quarterback Shedeur Sanders, drafted in the fifth round, are no longer with the team. Kaidon Salter, a transfer from Liberty, is likely to take over as starting quarterback. Colorado opens the regular season at home against Georgia Tech on August 29.

With the upcoming press conference, further information about Sanders’ health and the Buffaloes’ outlook is anticipated.
