Miami Dolphins Running Back Alexander Mattison Undergoes Season-Ending Surgery
Miami Dolphins running back Alexander Mattison will miss the remainder of the 2024 NFL season after undergoing neck surgery. The procedure was performed Sunday in Chicago, following an injury Mattison sustained during a preseason game against the Chicago Bears. Initial comments from Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel suggested the injury was minor, but further evaluation led to a season-ending operation.

Mattison, who joined the Dolphins after being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, had appeared in 89 career games and rushed for 2,790 yards on 716 attempts, averaging 3.9 yards per carry. In the previous season, he played 14 games, recording 420 rushing yards on 132 carries. The 27-year-old running back is known for his physical running style and reliability in the backfield. With Mattison out, the Dolphins will rely on De’Von Achane, Jaylen Wright, and rookie Ollie Gordon to fill the gap at running back. Additionally, Jamaal Williams is currently working out for the team. The loss of Mattison is a significant setback for Miami’s depth at the position as they prepare for the upcoming season.
