Robinson is coming off back-to-back years with over 900 scrimmage yards and at least eight touchdowns. Over his career, he has played 41 games, accumulating 2,329 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns on 570 carries, while also contributing as a receiver out of the backfield. Despite his production, Robinson has yet to finish better than 24th among NFL running backs in snaps, touches, or yards in a single season, and he has missed time due to injuries in each of his pro campaigns.
The move comes as the Commanders look to reshape their backfield, elevating veteran Austin Ekeler to the starting role. For Robinson, the trade offers a fresh start and a chance to compete for a key role with the 49ers, who continue to build depth behind their offensive stars. Robinson, who overcame a shooting incident as a rookie in 2022 and returned to the field quickly, is entering the final year of his rookie contract.
