Kansas City Chiefs Dominate Chargers in Season Opener in Brazil
The Kansas City Chiefs opened their 2025 NFL season with a high-profile matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes showcased his trademark playmaking ability, throwing two touchdowns and making several highlight-reel plays, including a 49-yard pass to wide receiver Hollywood Brown and a spectacular airborne completion to JuJu Smith-Schuster for 12 yards early in the fourth quarter.

Mahomes continued to lead the offense, connecting with tight end Travis Kelce for a 37-yard touchdown. He also contributed on the ground, scrambling for an 11-yard touchdown and picking up 15 yards on another key run. Kicker Harrison Butker was reliable as ever, nailing a 59-yard field goal to close the first half and adding another from 35 yards. Wide receivers Tyquan Thornton and JuJu Smith-Schuster both made significant receptions, including a 39-yard gain for Thornton and a 16-yard pickup for Smith-Schuster.

Defensively, linebacker Drue Tranquill made a statement with an 8-yard sack of Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. The Chiefs’ defense delivered key stops throughout the game, holding the Chargers in check during critical moments.

The game marked a special occasion for the franchise, continuing the Chiefs’ tradition of international games and expanding their global fanbase. Pre-game festivities featured both the Chiefs Cheerleaders and mascot KC Wolf participating in NFL Brazil youth flag football events, further strengthening community ties in Brazil.

As four-time Super Bowl champions (IV, LIV, LVII, LVIII), the Chiefs are once again among the favorites this season. Their season opener in Brazil demonstrated the team’s depth and the continued excellence of Patrick Mahomes, who remains one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks.
