Ryan Staub Leads Colorado Buffaloes to Victory Over Delaware
Ryan Staub came off the bench to lead the Colorado Buffaloes to a decisive 31-7 victory over the Delaware Blue Hens at Folsom Field on September 6, 2025. The third-string quarterback threw two touchdown passes, capitalizing on his opportunity in a game that featured all three of Colorado’s top quarterbacks. Colorado opened the scoring with Kaidon Salter orchestrating an impressive 12-play, 87-yard drive, finishing with a 9-yard touchdown run. Alejandro Mata added a 28-yard field goal in the second quarter, giving Colorado a 10-0 lead. Delaware responded with a 4-yard touchdown pass from Nick Minicucci to Jo’Nathan Silver, narrowing the gap to 10-7 late in the first half. With 45 seconds left before halftime, head coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders turned to Ryan Staub. Staub quickly energized the Buffaloes, connecting with DeKalon Taylor for a 21-yard touchdown. Colorado went into halftime ahead 17-7. Staub continued his strong performance in the third quarter, launching a deep pass to Sincere Brown for a 71-yard touchdown on the third play of the half. Brown finished as the game’s leading receiver with four catches for 120 yards and a touchdown. Colorado’s defense held strong, forcing turnovers and limiting Delaware to just 396 total yards while the Buffaloes posted 398. Micah Welch sealed the victory with a 10-yard rushing touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Staub completed 8 of 11 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns, making a compelling case for a larger role in Colorado’s quarterback rotation. The win marks Colorado’s first of the season and sets up a quarterback competition ahead of their next matchup against Houston. For Delaware, it was a tough debut against a Power Five opponent, but Jo’Nathan Silver provided a bright spot with the team’s only touchdown.
