Green Bay Packers Dominate Washington Commanders in 27-18 Victory
The Green Bay Packers improved to 2-0 after defeating the Washington Commanders 27-18 on Thursday Night Football at Lambeau Field. The Packers dominated most of the contest, showcasing a balanced offense and a tough defense, while Washington struggled to find consistency on either side of the ball. Green Bay set the tone early, executing two touchdown drives of over 90 yards in the first half and building a 14-3 halftime lead. Quarterback Jordan Love passed for 292 yards and two touchdowns, earning a 113.9 passer rating. Tight end Tucker Kraft had a breakout game, catching six passes for 124 yards and a touchdown—his 124 receiving yards were the most by a Packers tight end since 2015. Running back Josh Jacobs contributed 84 rushing yards and a touchdown, extending his franchise record to 10 straight games with a rushing TD. The Commanders’ offense was stagnant for much of the night, hampered by missed field goals and a stifling Packers defense led by Micah Parsons. Washington managed just 51 yards on the ground and was held scoreless until the fourth quarter. Quarterback Jayden Daniels finished 24-of-42 for 200 yards and two late touchdowns but was sacked four times and pressured throughout. Washington narrowed the deficit to 17-10 early in the fourth quarter with a 20-yard touchdown to tight end Zach Ertz, but Green Bay responded immediately. Kraft’s 8-yard touchdown catch capped a 65-yard drive, pushing the lead to 24-10. A 56-yard field goal by Brandon McManus extended the margin to three scores. The Commanders added a late touchdown to Deebo Samuel, but it was not enough to threaten Green Bay’s control of the game. Defensively, the Packers excelled. Cornerback Keisean Nixon broke up five passes, a career high, while Parsons, who signed a record contract in the offseason, was a disruptive presence—drawing penalties, splitting sacks, and consistently hurrying Daniels. The Commanders also suffered a string of injuries, losing multiple starters including Austin Ekeler (Achilles), further limiting their offensive output. Green Bay’s performance drew comparisons to their 1996 Super Bowl-winning defense, with several young stars stepping up. With two wins over NFC playoff teams to start the season, the Packers are positioning themselves as early favorites in the conference.
