UCF Dominates North Carolina with a 34-9 Victory
UCF delivered a dominant home performance, defeating the North Carolina Tar Heels 34-9 on September 20, 2025, at Acrisure Bounce House in Orlando. The UCF Knights maintained their perfect start to the season, improving to 3-0 at home, while North Carolina dropped to 2-2. From the outset, UCF controlled the game. Quarterback Tayven Jackson led the Knights with 223 passing yards, completing 25 of 32 attempts and throwing one touchdown. He also contributed a 13-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter. Noe Ruelas added two field goals, extending UCF’s lead to 13-0 by the second quarter. North Carolina struggled offensively, with starting quarterback Gio Lopez throwing two interceptions and being held to just 87 passing yards before leaving the game with an injury in the third quarter. Replacement Max Johnson connected with Kobe Paysour for the Tar Heels’ lone touchdown late in the third, but the two-point conversion failed. The Tar Heels’ ground game was also stifled, recording only 50 rushing yards. UCF’s balanced attack featured strong contributions from running backs Myles Montgomery and Jaden Nixon, who combined for multiple scoring drives. Montgomery capped a six-play, 64-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Nixon added a five-yard TD in the fourth. Tight end Kylan Fox caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Jackson just before halftime, highlighting UCF’s efficient red-zone execution. Defensively, UCF forced two turnovers and held North Carolina to just 217 total yards, while the Knights offense amassed 366 yards. Linebacker L. Carter led UCF with 10 tackles, helping to contain the Tar Heels’ offense throughout the game. This win builds momentum for head coach Scott Frost in his second stint at UCF. The Knights’ strong start positions them well in the Big 12, while North Carolina, coached by Bill Belichick, will look to regroup ahead of conference play. Historically, UCF has thrived under Frost’s leadership, previously achieving a perfect 13-0 season in 2017. The Knights’ current form suggests they could contend for another strong postseason run if their defense and offense continue this level of performance.
