Chargers Secure Dramatic Win Over Broncos with Last-Second Field Goal
The Los Angeles Chargers edged out the Denver Broncos 23-20 in a dramatic Week 3 matchup at SoFi Stadium, maintaining their perfect start to the 2025 NFL season and seizing sole possession of first place in the AFC West. The deciding moment came as Cameron Dicker converted a 43-yard field goal as time expired, capping a late comeback for the Chargers.

At halftime, the Chargers led 10-7, with running back Omarion Hampton scoring the game’s opening touchdown. The Broncos responded with a 52-yard touchdown pass from rookie quarterback Bo Nix to Courtland Sutton just before the break. Early in the third quarter, Denver surged ahead, as J.K. Dobbins punched in a 19-yard rushing score, followed by a Wil Lutz field goal to give the Broncos a 17-10 advantage.

The Chargers closed the gap with a Dicker field goal, but Denver stretched the lead to 20-13 in the fourth. With less than three minutes remaining, Justin Herbert orchestrated a touchdown drive, connecting with Keenan Allen for a 20-yard score to tie the game. After a Broncos punt, Herbert again led the Chargers down the field, setting up Dicker for the game-winning kick as time expired.

Statistically, Justin Herbert threw for 300 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while Bo Nix finished with 153 passing yards and a touchdown. Courtland Sutton led the Broncos with 118 receiving yards and a score. On the ground, Dobbins rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown, while Hampton had 70 yards and a score for Los Angeles.

The Chargers improve to 3-0, while the Broncos drop to 1-2 after their second consecutive loss. Denver struggled with penalties and red zone inefficiency, issues they will need to address as they prepare to face the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles next week.

Notably, Chargers running back Najee Harris suffered a non-contact ankle injury in the second quarter and did not return, potentially impacting Los Angeles’ backfield depth going forward. Harris, a key offseason acquisition from the Pittsburgh Steelers, had 28 yards on six carries before his exit.
