Vikings Dominate Bengals in Historic 48-10 Rout
The Minnesota Vikings delivered a historic 48-10 rout of the Cincinnati Bengals in Minneapolis, marking the worst loss in Bengals franchise history. The win was powered by a dominant defensive display, including two touchdowns from cornerback Isaiah Rodgers and a strong debut from quarterback Carson Wentz. The Vikings set the tone early, with Wentz connecting for a 12-yard touchdown to Josh Oliver on the opening drive. Minutes later, Rodgers intercepted Jake Browning and returned it 87 yards for a touchdown. Rodgers was far from finished, forcing two fumbles and returning another for a 66-yard score, becoming the first NFL player (since 1991) to force two fumbles and score two defensive touchdowns in a single game. Minnesota’s offense found rhythm behind Wentz, who completed 14 of 20 passes for 173 yards, two touchdowns, and no turnovers. He also hit T.J. Hockenson for a five-yard touchdown. Running back Jordan Mason rushed for 116 yards and two scores on 16 carries, helping the Vikings outgain the Bengals on the ground by 116 yards. Kicker Will Reichard nailed a franchise-record 62-yard field goal as the first half expired. The Vikings’ defense suffocated Cincinnati, limiting them to 171 total yards and forcing five turnovers. Browning, starting in place of the injured Joe Burrow, threw two interceptions and managed just 140 passing yards. The Bengals were held to 2.5 yards per carry, with Chase Brown gaining just three yards on ten attempts. Minnesota led 34-3 at halftime and never looked back. Most starters, including Justin Jefferson, were rested in the fourth quarter. Rookie Max Brosmer relieved Wentz for mop-up duty. The Vikings posted their most lopsided win since 1998 and highest point total since 2015. For Cincinnati, the loss exposed issues on both sides of the ball, particularly in ball security and offensive production. Coach Zac Taylor called it a collective failure and emphasized the need for a team response after losing Burrow to a toe injury that could sideline him for the season. The Vikings (2-1) next face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin, while the Bengals (2-1) travel to Denver for Monday Night Football.
