UTSA Dominates Tulane with 41-19 Victory in AAC Showdown
UTSA defeated Tulane 41-19 in a decisive American Athletic Conference matchup at the Alamodome in San Antonio on October 30, 2025. The UTSA Roadrunners improved their season record to 4-4 (2-2 AAC), while Tulane dropped to 6-2 (3-1 AAC). The Roadrunners set the tone early, leading 31-12 at halftime after a dominant first half from quarterback Owen McCown. McCown completed 26 of 28 passes for 311 yards and four touchdowns, including two scoring strikes to wide receiver David Amador II, who finished with nine catches for 93 yards. Devin McCuin also caught two touchdowns, one on a trick play pass from Amador II. UTSA’s offense was nearly unstoppable in the air, at one point connecting on 14 consecutive completions—a school record for McCown, as noted by ESPN. Tulane’s offense struggled to keep pace. Quarterback Jake Retzlaff went 14-of-28 for 194 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions. He added 63 rushing yards and a score on the ground, but the Green Wave committed three turnovers and failed to establish consistency. Tulane’s only sustained drives came early, including a one-yard touchdown run from Retzlaff, but missed opportunities—including a failed fourth-down conversion and a missed 23-yard field goal—proved costly. Statistically, UTSA outgained Tulane 400 to 379 in total yards, but the Roadrunners were far more efficient, scoring on nearly every possession in the first half. The Roadrunners committed zero turnovers and controlled the pace, converting key third downs and capitalizing on Tulane penalties. The win marks a significant statement for UTSA Football, who rebounded from a slow start to the season. The Roadrunners have now won two straight in conference play and look to build momentum for bowl eligibility. Tulane, who entered the game as AAC favorites, will need to regroup as they continue their conference schedule. Looking ahead, both teams will face crucial games as the AAC race tightens. For Tulane, cleaning up turnovers and finding consistency on offense will be key to staying atop the standings. UTSA, meanwhile, will aim to sustain their dynamic passing attack as they push for a postseason berth.
