Notre Dame Dominates Navy with 49-10 Victory on Snowy Saturday
On a snowy Saturday night in South Bend, No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish cruised to a 49-10 victory over the Navy Midshipmen, marking their seventh consecutive win this season. Quarterback C.J. Carr delivered a standout performance, completing 13 of 16 passes for 218 yards and three touchdowns. The Fighting Irish built a commanding 42-10 lead before Carr was replaced late in the third quarter. Despite the steady rain turning to snow, Carr remained unfazed, stating, “I love it. Being from Michigan, I played in the rain and the snow. You’d rather play in the sunshine, but I can handle it.” Running back Jeremiyah Love added 94 yards on 13 carries, including two touchdowns. His highlight was a 48-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, where he broke free after rolling off a defender. Head coach Marcus Freeman praised Love’s effort, suggesting he should be in the Heisman Trophy conversation: “You talk about one of the best players in the country, if he’s not one of them, then … it’s hard to believe how many other players are that special.” Notre Dame’s offense was efficient throughout, amassing 502 total yards with no turnovers and converting 7 of 10 third downs. Aneyas Williams capped off the scoring with a 54-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. The defense held Navy to just 52 rushing yards in the second half after allowing 154 in the first. Navy, playing without injured starting quarterback Blake Horvath, started freshman Braxton Woodson. Woodson managed 101 rushing yards and scored Navy’s lone touchdown, but the Midshipmen struggled to keep pace after halftime. Head coach Brian Newberry explained the decision to sit Horvath: “We didn’t want to put him in harm’s way and make something worse.” With this win, Notre Dame improves to 7-2 and strengthens their position in the College Football Playoff rankings. Navy, now at 7-2 as well, looks to regroup after back-to-back losses and will host USF next week. Notre Dame travels to face Pittsburgh in their next contest. Notre Dame and Navy have a storied rivalry dating back to 1927. Notre Dame now holds an 84-13-1 advantage in the all-time series and has won eight straight matchups, including a 51-14 victory in 2024 and 42-3 in 2023. The Midshipmen’s last win came in 2016.
