Bam Margera: No Return to Jackass, Focus on Skateboarding and Sobriety
Bam Margera, once a staple of MTV’s Jackass and Viva La Bam, has made it clear that he has no plans to return to his roots with the infamous stunt crew. Nearly 25 years after Jackass first aired, Margera is distancing himself from the franchise, citing personal and professional reasons for his departure.
Margera’s split from Jackass became public following his removal from the 2022 film Jackass Forever and a subsequent lawsuit against Paramount and his former co-stars, including Johnny Knoxville. In recent interviews, Margera emphasized that the fallout was irreparable: “They have like new dudes, and what they did to me, making me go to treatment and paying for it, and then not putting me in a movie, and, you know, I had to go to court over it and I just, you couldn’t offer me enough money to want to do another Jackass with them. The damage has been done.”
Margera’s concerns stem not only from the legal dispute but also from his strained relationships with Knoxville and director Jeff Tremaine. The core issue revolved around Margera’s alleged coercion into rehab as a condition for participation in the film, which he felt was unfair and ultimately led to a settled legal battle. With so much animosity, a Jackass reunion with Margera is off the table for the foreseeable future.
As for his other hit series, Viva La Bam, Margera is equally uninterested in a revival. He explained that the concept—living with his parents and orchestrating pranks—no longer fits his life as he’s grown older, started his own family, and moved on from that phase. “If we did a Viva La Bam reboot, I would have to move back in with my parents and re-mess with ’em after giving them a 15-year break. It would just be weird.”
Despite a tumultuous few years battling addiction, Margera is now reportedly healthy and focusing on his sobriety. Skateboarding remains a daily passion, and his candid discussions about his struggles have become central to his ongoing recovery. Margera has also rekindled his friendship with Tony Hawk, and fans can play as Bam Margera in the recently released Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3+4 on all major gaming platforms.
With no plans to return to his reality TV roots, Margera’s story is now one of personal growth, resilience, and a renewed dedication to skateboarding and well-being.
