The Guardians built a commanding advantage with a five-run sixth inning, highlighted by Gabriel Arias’ 440-foot three-run homer and RBI singles from David Fry and Carlos Santana off Mets starter Sean Manaea. However, the Mets responded quickly, as Pete Alonso launched his 251st career home run in the bottom of the sixth, moving him within one of Darryl Strawberry’s franchise record. Alonso added an RBI single in the eighth, and Mark Vientos’ sacrifice fly leveled the score at 5-5.
Both teams entered extra innings tied, and Cleveland struck twice in the 10th. Daniel Schneemann scored the go-ahead run when Brett Baty’s errant throw on a Fry bunt allowed him to cross the plate. Arias extended the lead with a sacrifice fly. Enright took the mound in the bottom half, quickly recording two outs before Baty’s RBI single narrowed the gap to 7-6. Enright then forced Luis Torrens to fly out, sealing the win for the Guardians and earning a memorable first save in his 19th MLB appearance. After the game, Enright was celebrated by teammates and praised by manager Stephen Vogt for his resilience—both on the field and in his battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a diagnosis he received in 2022.
With the victory, the Guardians improved to 57-55 and have now won 17 of their last 24 games, remaining in contention for the AL Wild Card. The Mets, meanwhile, fell to 63-50 despite Alonso’s milestone chase and a late comeback. The series continues Tuesday with Mets right-hander Clay Holmes (9-6, 3.45 ERA) facing Guardians lefty Logan Allen (7-9, 4.06 ERA).
