Cruz Azul Secures Vital Away Win Against Atlético San Luis
Cruz Azul secured a vital away win against Atlético San Luis in Matchday 4 of the Liga MX Apertura 2025, prevailing 2-1 at Estadio Alfonso Lastras Ramírez on Monday, August 11.

The match was crucial for both sides, as they aimed to recover from disappointing Leagues Cup campaigns and improve their league positions. Cruz Azul entered the fixture in 7th place with 5 points, while Atlético San Luis sat 13th with only 3 points.

After a goalless first half, Cruz Azul broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute with a low left-footed strike by Carlos Rotondi, assisted by José Paradela. Moments later, Ángel Sepúlveda doubled the visitors’ lead, converting a penalty in the 57th minute after a foul by Juanpe inside the box.

San Luis faced a further setback when João Pedro was sent off with a red card in the 60th minute, leaving the hosts with ten men for the remainder of the match. Despite the disadvantage, San Luis pushed forward and pulled one back in the 85th minute through Román Torres, who scored from close range on the right side of the area.

Cruz Azul managed to hold their lead during a tense, extended stoppage time, despite receiving a second yellow card and subsequent dismissal for Jesús Orozco in the closing moments. The final whistle confirmed a 2-1 win for the visitors.

The result helps Cruz Azul recover from their recent struggles in international competition and boosts their standing in the Liga MX table. San Luis, meanwhile, will need to regroup after a hard-fought but ultimately unsuccessful effort.
