Tampa Bay Rays Overcome Giants in Thrilling 7-6 Comeback Victory
The Tampa Bay Rays secured a dramatic 7-6 comeback victory over the San Francisco Giants on Friday night at Oracle Park, with Yandy Diaz delivering the go-ahead RBI single in the top of the ninth inning. The win marked Tampa Bay’s third in their last four games and pushed the Giants to a season-worst four games under .500 at 59-63.

The game was a back-and-forth battle. San Francisco led 3-1 and then 6-3, but the Rays chipped away, ultimately tying and overtaking the Giants in their final at-bat. Junior Caminero continued his standout season by hitting his 35th home run, while Chandler Simpson powered the Rays’ offense with four hits. Diaz finished the night with two hits and two RBIs, including the decisive ninth-inning bloop single to right.

In the ninth, Giants reliever Randy Rodriguez (3-4) hit Nick Fortes with a pitch to open the inning. Simpson followed with his fourth single of the game. After a 4-5-2 putout by San Francisco, Diaz came through with his game-winning hit. Edwin Uceta (8-2) was crucial in relief for the Rays, escaping a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the eighth inning on just eight pitches. Closer Pete Fairbanks surrendered a leadoff double in the ninth but then retired three straight Giants to notch his 21st save.

On the mound, Rays starter Joe Boyle gave up four runs over two innings, while Giants starter Landen Roupp allowed five runs in three frames. Roupp struck out five but couldn’t hold the early lead. For the Giants, Willy Adames homered, but San Francisco’s offense struggled in key moments. The top two hitters, Heliot Ramos and Rafael Devers, combined for seven strikeouts in ten at-bats.

The result was covered live by ESPN, which provided real-time stats and highlights throughout the game. According to AP MLB, the loss deepened San Francisco’s recent skid, while Tampa Bay continues to push for a late-season surge.

Looking ahead, the Giants will send veteran right-hander Justin Verlander (1-9, 4.53 ERA) to the mound against Rays righty Adrian Houser (6-4, 2.84 ERA) in Saturday’s matchup. The series remains critical for both teams as they battle for postseason positioning in the National League and American League, respectively.
