Philadelphia Phillies Comeback to Defeat Milwaukee Brewers 10-8
On September 1, 2025, the Philadelphia Phillies mounted a dramatic comeback to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 10-8 at American Family Field. The contest was defined by a flurry of runs, pivotal late-inning rallies, and the ejection of Brewers manager Pat Murphy in the ninth after arguing a checked-swing call.

The Brewers jumped to an early 4-0 lead, with Brice Turang and Caleb Durbin each homering off Phillies starter Taijuan Walker in the first two innings. Walker struggled, surrendering three runs on 32 pitches in the opening frame. Milwaukee extended their advantage with a sacrifice fly in the fourth, but the Phillies began chipping away when Bryce Harper launched his 23rd home run, a 101 mph shot off rookie Jacob Misiorowski.

Philadelphia’s offense came alive in the middle innings. Trea Turner’s two-run triple in the fifth forced Misiorowski from the game, narrowing the deficit to 5-3. The Phillies seized control in the sixth with three runs off reliever Nick Mears, highlighted by RBI hits from Harrison Bader and sacrifice flies from Max Kepler and Edmundo Sosa, moving ahead 6-5.

Milwaukee responded in the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on two walks, a wild pitch, and a Bryson Stott error to tie the game 6-6. Both teams traded blows in the eighth: Bader’s second double of the day and a Stott RBI pushed Philadelphia ahead 8-6, but the Brewers answered with a two-out, two-run single from pinch-hitter Isaac Collins to level the score again.

In a tense ninth inning, Brandon Marsh delivered the decisive RBI single, scoring pinch-runner Garrett Stubbs after Abner Uribe issued two walks around a Harper strikeout. Bader added an insurance run with his third RBI of the game. The Brewers’ Murphy was ejected after arguing that J.T. Realmuto had not checked his swing on a crucial pitch.

Jhoan Duran closed out the win with a perfect ninth, securing his 25th save. Marsh finished 4-for-5, and Bader went 3-for-5 with two doubles. For Milwaukee, Turang reached base four times and continued his hot streak after batting .343 with 10 homers in August.

The Phillies improved to 80-58, maintaining their lead in the NL East, while the Brewers, now 85-54, still top the NL Central. After 19 games in 18 days, Milwaukee gets a day off before the series resumes Wednesday, with Aaron Nola (3-7, 6.47 ERA) set to face Jose Quintana (10-5, 3.69 ERA).
