MMA Fighter Raja Jackson Attacks Wrestler and Faces Felony Charges
Raja Jackson, the 25-year-old son of former UFC champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, has been arrested on felony charges in Los Angeles following a violent incident at a wrestling event last month. According to Los Angeles County inmate records, Jackson was taken into custody on Thursday and is being held on $50,000 bail after he attacked professional wrestler Stuart Smith, known in the ring as Syko Stu, during a live-streamed event at the KnokX Pro Wrestling Academy in Sun Valley. The incident occurred on August 23, when video footage showed Raja Jackson entering the ring during what was supposed to be a scripted wrestling match. Without warning, Jackson slammed Smith to the mat and delivered 23 rapid punches to Smith’s face, leaving the wrestler unconscious. The attack, which was initially mistaken by some as part of the show, quickly drew a response from other wrestlers, who intervened to pull Jackson off Smith. Police were called to the scene, and a felony battery report was filed, though Jackson was not arrested until several weeks later. Smith suffered significant injuries, including trauma to his jaw, a fractured maxilla bone, a laceration to his lip, and the loss of several teeth. He was hospitalized but later released and is now recovering at home. In the aftermath, Smith posted on social media about his long road to recovery, emphasizing the severity of the attack. The escalation appeared to stem from an earlier altercation during the event, when Smith smashed a can on Jackson’s head as part of the entertainment. Although video showed the two seemingly reconciling afterward, another clip captured a wrestler instructing Jackson to give someone a “receipt,” a wrestling term for a real strike in response to a previous incident. Despite the apparent attempt to keep the event within scripted boundaries, Jackson’s actions quickly turned into a real and violent assault. KnokX Pro Wrestling Academy condemned the attack, stating, “What was supposed to be a planned and agreed upon wrestling spot, turned into a selfish, irresponsible act of violence against Mr. Smith. This egregious act is reprehensible and never should have occurred.” Quinton “Rampage” Jackson publicly addressed the incident on X (formerly Twitter), expressing disappointment and stating, “Raja is a MMA fighter not a pro wrestler and had no business being involved in an event like this. I don’t condone my son’s actions AT ALL!” He emphasized that the situation was the result of “bad judgement, and a work that went wrong,” using wrestling terminology to highlight the blurred lines between performance and reality in such events. The case has drawn significant attention in both the MMA and wrestling communities, raising questions about safety protocols at crossover events and the responsibilities of organizers when inviting fighters from other disciplines. As the investigation continues, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers when real-life aggression disrupts the scripted world of professional wrestling.
