Celebrate the Legacy of Shaun Alexander: NFL MVP and Record-Setting Running Back
Shaun Alexander, known as “Mr. Touchdown” and “Alexander the Great,” remains one of the most accomplished running backs in Seattle Seahawks history. Standing 5’11” and weighing 225 lbs (180 cm, 102 kg), Alexander played nine seasons in the NFL, eight of which were with the Seahawks. Born on August 30, 1977, in Florence, Kentucky, he was selected in the first round (19th overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft by Seattle after a trade with the Dallas Cowboys.

During his career, Alexander played 123 games, amassing 2,187 rushing attempts for 9,453 yards and 100 rushing touchdowns. He still holds the Seahawks’ all-time franchise records for career rushes (2,176), rushing yards, and touchdowns. Despite his impressive numbers, Alexander has not been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but he remains a candidate and has reflected on what such recognition would mean to him. In a recent interview, Alexander discussed the honor of potentially joining football’s elite in Canton.

Alexander was named NFL MVP in 2005 after leading the league in rushing and setting a then-record for touchdowns in a season. Despite never winning a Super Bowl, his individual accolades and team contributions have left a lasting impact. Alexander last played in 2008 and continues to be celebrated by Seahawks fans.

Off the field, Alexander is making headlines as well. He and his wife are expecting their 14th child, adding to his legacy both on and off the gridiron. For more on his career stats, visit Shaun Alexander’s profile at Pro Football Reference.
