Cowboys Aim for Victory Against Jets in Week 5 Showdown
The Dallas Cowboys faced the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in Week 5, with both teams aiming to reverse difficult starts to their seasons. The Cowboys, entering at 1-2-1, were slight favorites against the winless Jets (0-4). Kickoff was at 1 p.m. ET, broadcast live on FOX.

Dallas relied on quarterback Dak Prescott, who leads the NFL with 1,119 passing yards and 121 completions. Prescott’s form has been notable since his return from injury, posting at least 30 completions with a 70% completion rate in three straight games—a mark only matched by Drew Brees, Kirk Cousins, and Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl era. Prescott also leads an offense ranked first in total and passing yards, and fifth in scoring.

The Jets, meanwhile, continue to struggle defensively, allowing 30 points per game and failing to record a takeaway all season. Defensive coordinator Steve Wilks has emphasized ball security and aggressive play, but the team remains last in the NFL in turnover differential. Offensively, New York has shown promise on the ground, ranking third in rushing yards per game (144.5), led by Breece Hall. With Braelon Allen out, Hall is expected to take on a bigger role.

Both teams have major defensive concerns. The Cowboys’ defense, under new coordinator Matt Eberflus, ranks last in yards allowed and 31st in points allowed, conceding over 300 yards in every game and more than 450 yards twice. The absence of Micah Parsons, traded in the offseason, continues to impact their pass rush.

Statistically, the matchup favored Dallas. The Cowboys are 1.5-point favorites according to SportsLine, and projection models give them a 54% chance to cover. The most recent meeting saw Dallas win 30-10. SportsLine’s simulation predicts a 28-25 Cowboys victory, while other analysts expect the Cowboys’ offense to be decisive, forecasting a 35-23 win.

With both teams desperate for a win and searching for a defensive identity, the difference in this contest is expected to be Dak Prescott’s elite play. The Jets must improve their turnover margin and discipline to have a chance against a high-powered Cowboys offense.
