Florida Upsets Texas 19-10 in SEC Opener
Florida upset No. 9 Texas 19-10 in Gainesville on October 4, 2025, delivering a significant blow to the Longhorns in their SEC opener. The Florida Gators controlled the first half, building a 19-7 lead and dominating both sides of the ball at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Florida opened the scoring with a five-yard touchdown run by Jadan Baugh, followed by a 34-yard field goal from Trey Smack. Quarterback DJ Lagway, battling injuries, threw for 150 yards and a touchdown to Dallas Wilson, who became the first true freshman in Gators history to catch a touchdown in his debut. Baugh led the ground game with 66 rushing yards and a score as Florida amassed 113 rushing yards before halftime.

Texas struggled offensively, with Arch Manning completing just 6 of 12 passes for 63 yards and one touchdown. The Longhorns were held to 10 total rushing yards by their backs. Their only first-half points came after a Florida fumble, as Manning connected with Q. Wisner for a short touchdown pass. The Gators’ defense consistently pressured Manning, including a crucial sack by Brien Taylor Jr. late in the game.

Statistically, Florida outgained Texas 263 to 87 in total yards and dominated time of possession. The Gators converted 5 of 7 third downs, while Texas managed just 1 of 5. Florida forced the game’s only turnover and blocked a punt for a safety, extending their advantage.

This win was critical for Florida, who entered the game at 1-3 and had struggled offensively in recent weeks. The Gators’ ability to control the line of scrimmage and finish drives set the tone. Meanwhile, Texas, coming off a shutout victory over Sam Houston and riding high after last season’s 49-17 win over Florida, faltered in their first true test since joining the SEC.

The Longhorns will need to regroup quickly ahead of the Red River Rivalry against Oklahoma. For Florida, the victory provides momentum as they prepare to face No. 6 Texas A&M next week.
