LAFC Defeats Toronto FC 2-0 to Extend Winning Streak
LAFC defeated Toronto FC 2-0 at BMO Stadium on Wednesday night, extending their winning streak to six matches and moving within one point of the top spot in the Western Conference. Goals from Jeremy Ebobisse in the 13th minute and substitute Frankie Amaya in the 69th minute secured victory for the home side, despite the absence of star attackers Denis Bouanga and Son Heung-min, who were away on international duty. Jeremy Ebobisse capitalized on a Toronto turnover early in the first half, breaking away to score his fourth league goal of the season with a precise finish past goalkeeper Sean Johnson. Toronto, struggling offensively all season, entered the match having drawn a league-record eight consecutive games but failed to find a breakthrough against a disciplined LAFC defense. Frankie Amaya doubled LAFC’s lead midway through the second half, converting from close range after another Toronto mistake. It was Amaya’s first goal for LAFC, coming off the bench to seal the win. Johnson managed to save a penalty attempt from David Martínez, keeping the scoreline respectable for the visitors. Veteran goalkeeper Hugo Lloris posted his 11th clean sheet of the season, marking his third straight shutout and underscoring LAFC’s defensive solidity. With this win, LAFC (17-7-8, 59 points) climbed to third place in the Western Conference, just behind San Diego and Vancouver, and maintained strong momentum ahead of the MLS Cup Playoffs. The match also saw the LAFC and MLS debuts of Alexandru Băluță and Jailson. Toronto FC (5-14-14) remain winless in their last 11 matches, continuing their difficult campaign. LAFC will face Austin FC next, still missing Bouanga and Son before the pair returns for the regular-season finale.
