Bruins Triumph Over Lightning with a 2-0 Victory
The Boston Bruins extended their strong season start with a 2-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday afternoon at TD Garden. The game, which began at 1 p.m. ET, saw the Bruins continue their unbeaten run at home, improving their record to 4-0-0, while the Lightning fell to 0-3-0. Boston capitalized early, scoring twice in the first period and then maintaining their lead with disciplined defense and solid goaltending. Anthony Cirelli was the difference-maker, tallying both goals for the Lightning, but the Bruins responded with strong penalty killing and contributions from across the lineup. Viktor Arvidsson, acquired in July, remains in search of his first point as a Bruin but was active on the second line with Pavel Zacha and Casey Mittelstadt, and on the second power-play unit. Goaltender Jeremy Swayman continued his impressive form, allowing just one goal in each of his two starts so far this season. Head coach Marco Sturm credited his team’s buy-in and toughness, noting that the Bruins have thrived in low-scoring, tightly-contested games. Boston’s defensive depth was evident, with newcomer Jordan Harris making a strong debut in place of the injured Hampus Lindholm and immediately contributing with an assist. The Bruins’ attention to detail and adherence to their system have been key factors in their early success. For the Lightning, the loss marks their first 0-3-0 start under head coach Jon Cooper, now in his 13th full season. Despite strong performances from top-line players such as Brayden Point and Darren Raddysh, Tampa Bay has struggled defensively, allowing at least three goals in each of their opening games and being consistently outshot. Former Vezina Trophy winner Andrei Vasilevskiy has faced a difficult start, and the team is looking for a reset as they head out for a four-game road trip. Monday’s matchup also served as a preview for the 2026 Navy Federal Credit Union Stadium Series, in which these teams will meet again at Raymond James Stadium on February 1. The Bruins now embark on a three-game road trip, while the Lightning hope to turn things around away from home.
