Herbert finished 29-of-38 for 264 yards and two touchdowns, showing poise under pressure as he led the Chargers’ final drive. McConkey was a key target, tallying seven catches for 100 yards and a touchdown. Running back Kimani Vidal was instrumental, rushing 18 times for 124 yards and adding a receiving touchdown, while Dicker was perfect on five field goal attempts, including the decisive 33-yarder.
The Dolphins, led by Tua Tagovailoa, rallied from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Tagovailoa threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Darren Waller with 46 seconds left, giving Miami a 27-26 lead. However, a 40-yard kickoff return by Nyheim Hines set up the Chargers’ winning drive. Tagovailoa completed 21-of-32 passes for 205 yards, one touchdown, but was intercepted three times—including a game-ending pick on Miami’s final possession. Rookie De’Von Achane was a bright spot for Miami, rushing for 128 yards and two scores, including a 49-yard burst in the first quarter.
Turnovers proved costly for Miami, starting with Jaylen Waddle’s bobble that led to an early interception by Chargers safety Tony Jefferson. The Dolphins also missed a 57-yard field goal in the second quarter, giving the Chargers favorable field position.
The victory was a stark contrast to the teams’ previous meeting, where the Dolphins won 36-34 in September 2023. Historically, the matchup has seen dramatic swings, with the first ever meeting in 1966 resulting in a 44-10 Chargers win (ESPN game recap).
With the win, Los Angeles improved to 4-2 and will host Indianapolis next week, while the Dolphins, now 1-5, travel to Cleveland searching for answers.
