Tampa Bay Buccaneers Select Tez Johnson in 2025 NFL Draft

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected wide receiver Tez Johnson from Oregon with the 235th pick in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Johnson, 23, joins the Bucs after a standout collegiate career split between Troy and Oregon, where he totaled 310 receptions for 3,889 yards and 30 touchdowns across 62 games. Johnson distinguished himself at Oregon, earning second-team All-Pac-12 honors in 2024 with 83 catches for 898 yards and 10 touchdowns, and honorable mention recognition in 2023 after recording 86 catches for 1,182 yards and 10 touchdowns. His 86 receptions in 2023 and 83 in 2024 are the top two single-season marks in Oregon history. Johnson also played at Troy, where he posted consistent production from 2020 to 2022. During his time at Oregon, Johnson was named a team captain and helped lead the Ducks to a Pac-12 championship and College Football Playoff appearance. Off the field, Johnson has a close connection with current Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, considering themselves adopted brothers after being raised together during high school. In training camp and preseason, Johnson quickly made an impression for the Buccaneers, including catching a touchdown pass from quarterback Kyle Trask against the Buffalo Bills in Preseason Week 3. He also contributed with eight catches and a touchdown in the preseason finale and was active as both a punt and kick returner during camp. Johnson reunited in Tampa Bay with former Oregon teammate and running back Bucky Irving, which he highlighted as a key positive in his introductory press conference. As the 2025 NFL season progresses, Johnson has already made contributions in regular season action, including a touchdown catch from Baker Mayfield against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6.
