During his college career, Ewers played in and started 35 games, leading Texas to 27 wins and two College Football Playoff appearances. He posted a 21-4 record as a starter over his last two seasons, the best mark for a Texas quarterback since Colt McCoy’s 25-2 run from 2008 to 2009. Ewers also set the active FBS record with 26 consecutive games with a passing touchdown, ranking second in Texas program history. His performance earned him recognition as a 2024 semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year, Maxwell Award, and Davey O’Brien Award, as well as a top-10 finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
After transferring from Ohio State to Texas in 2022, Ewers quickly established himself as a leader. He was named the 2023 Big 12 Championship Game Most Outstanding Player and earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors. Off the field, Ewers made the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team and was a three-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
With the Miami Dolphins, Ewers is projected to be the QB2 over Skylar Thompson and Chris Streveler. According to ESPN, his good arm strength and college production make him an intriguing developmental prospect for Miami, though he will likely spend the 2024 season as a backup to Tua Tagovailoa. If he develops further, Ewers could compete for a larger role in the future.
Ewers’ transition to the NFL will be closely watched, as he brings a proven college track record and a history of winning at the highest level. His draft selection by the Dolphins signals the team’s interest in building depth and potential at the quarterback position for seasons to come.
