Tyler Lockett Seeks New Opportunities After Titans Release
Veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett has been released by the Tennessee Titans after he requested his release, as confirmed by ESPN. Lockett, 33, joined the Titans on a one-year deal worth up to $6 million, but struggled to make an impact this season, recording just 10 receptions for 70 yards across seven games. His departure comes at a time when Tennessee sits at a disappointing 1-6 record, with Lockett ranking just fifth on the team in targets.

Lockett leaves Seattle and Tennessee with a distinguished career. After being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, he spent ten seasons with the franchise, becoming their No. 2 all-time leader in receptions (661), receiving yards (8,594), and touchdowns (61), second only to Steve Largent. His production has declined in recent years—he tallied 49 catches for 600 yards and two touchdowns in 2024—but Lockett’s career resume remains impressive, including 671 career receptions and 8,664 yards, as highlighted on Pro Football Reference.

During his brief stint with the Titans, Lockett was expected to fill the No. 2 receiver role behind Calvin Ridley, but the offense struggled under a rookie quarterback and failed to utilize his veteran skill set. Lockett grew up a Titans fan, inspired by Vince Young’s 2006 draft, making his time in Tennessee personally significant, if statistically underwhelming.

As a free agent, Lockett could be a valuable addition to several teams. The Las Vegas Raiders, coached by Pete Carroll, could use his veteran presence to aid quarterback Geno Smith, who has struggled with a new receiving corps. The Pittsburgh Steelers could also benefit, especially given their lack of production outside of DK Metcalf, and the New England Patriots’ passing attack—ranked ninth in the NFL—could use an experienced receiver to support young quarterback Drake Maye. Even the San Francisco 49ers, dealing with injuries at wideout, might consider Lockett as a depth addition.

There is also speculation about a possible return to Seattle, though the Seahawks currently have a strong group led by Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp, and Tory Horton. Seahawks GM John Schneider left the door open for a reunion, stating, “Go out and see what’s shaking [on the market], and we’ll stay in touch.”

Lockett, listed at 5-10 and 182 pounds, remains one of the most reliable route runners of his era. Despite his age, his experience and production could appeal to playoff contenders seeking depth and leadership in the receiving corps.
