Austin Reaves Shines as Lakers Defeat Kings 127-120
Austin Reaves had a career night, scoring 51 points to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 127-120 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday. Despite playing without both Luka Dončić and LeBron James, the Lakers secured a crucial road win in Sacramento. Reaves’ 51 points came on 12-of-22 shooting from the field and an impressive 21-of-22 from the free throw line. He also collected 11 rebounds and nine assists, nearly posting a triple-double. Reaves became just the fourth NBA player in the last 40 years to record at least 50 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists in a single game, joining Luka Dončić, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden. The last Laker to reach those numbers was Elgin Baylor in 1963. Deandre Ayton contributed 22 points and 15 rebounds, while Rui Hachimura added 18 points for Los Angeles. Marcus Smart finished with 11 points and five assists. The Lakers started strong, building a 10-point lead in the opening quarter, with Hachimura hitting double figures early. The Kings rallied in the second quarter, led by Zach LaVine’s 32 points, and the teams were tied at halftime. Sacramento briefly took the lead in the third, but the Lakers regained control behind Reaves’ relentless scoring and ability to draw fouls. Reaves scored 15 points in the fourth quarter, including several key free throws in the final minute to seal the win. Sacramento’s Domantas Sabonis posted a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds, while DeMar DeRozan had 21 points. Dennis Schroder added 18 points and 12 assists. Despite a strong effort from the Kings, they could not overcome Reaves’ historic performance. The Lakers now look ahead to their matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers, while the Kings will face the Oklahoma City Thunder next.
