Larkin opened his account with a backhand goal midway through the second period, then sealed the result with his eighth goal of the season into an empty net, marking his 250th career NHL goal. He has now recorded at least one point in nine of Detroit’s first ten games this season, tallying eight goals and eight assists.
Detroit’s offense was further bolstered by Alex DeBrincat, who scored his second of the season on the power play, and first goals of the season from Ben Chiarot and Elmer Soderblom. Goaltender John Gibson made 20 saves for the Red Wings, helping the team secure a second straight win on their road trip.
For the Blues, Brayden Schenn scored just 47 seconds into the game off a feed from Colton Parayko, who reached a career milestone with his 300th NHL point. Jordan Kyrou added his fourth goal of the season late in the third period, maintaining his streak with at least one point in each of his last eight games. Jordan Binnington stopped 15 shots but couldn’t prevent St. Louis from conceding at least five goals for the sixth time in their regulation losses.
The Blues continue to struggle with injuries, as Robert Thomas (upper body) and Jake Neighbours (right leg injury) were both sidelined. Patrick Kane missed his fifth consecutive game for Detroit due to an upper-body injury.
Next up, the Red Wings travel to face the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, while the Blues host the Vancouver Canucks.
