Miller Leads Rangers to Overtime Victory Against Oilers
J.T. Miller scored the overtime winner at 2:49, leading the New York Rangers to a 4-3 comeback victory over the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place on Thursday night. The Rangers erased a two-goal deficit in the third period before clinching their second consecutive win on the road trip. The game opened with Jonny Brodzinski putting New York ahead, but the Oilers responded quickly. Darnell Nurse tied it with a one-timer and later added his second goal after video review, while Matt Savoie tallied his first NHL goal on the power play, giving Edmonton a 3-1 lead midway through the second. New York turned the momentum in the third period. Braden Schneider capitalized on a rebound to cut the deficit, and Taylor Raddysh evened the score at 3-3 with a wrist shot from the slot at 12:04. Igor Shesterkin made 33 saves for the Rangers, including key stops late in regulation and early in overtime, while Stuart Skinner finished with 30 saves for Edmonton. The Oilers had a power-play opportunity in the final minute of regulation but failed to convert, and the Rangers’ penalty kill held firm. In overtime, Miller broke through, skating past Leon Draisaitl and beating Skinner glove side to secure the win. Miller’s goal marked the 15th overtime tally of his career, tying Johnny Gaudreau for the second-most among American players, trailing only Max Pacioretty. “The third period was great,” Miller said postgame. “We had so many guys contribute. That was a true team effort. When they had their looks, [Igor Shesterkin] played awesome. That’s a big win we can build on.” Adam Henrique, who assisted on Savoie’s goal, was honored pregame for reaching 1,000 NHL games, receiving a silver stick and commemorative gifts. The Oilers, now 5-4-3, have dropped three of their last four games and will host the Chicago Blackhawks next. The Rangers, improving to 5-1-1 on the road, conclude their four-game trip against the Seattle Kraken.
