Koa Peat: Dominates High School Basketball and Prepares for College
Koa Peat, a 6-foot-8, 235-pound forward from Gilbert, Arizona, continues to make headlines as one of the most productive high school basketball players in the country. Ranked as the No. 8 overall recruit for the class of 2025, Peat has already built an impressive resume before joining the Arizona Wildcats men’s basketball team. Peat’s high school career at Perry High School was defined by consistent dominance. He led Perry to four consecutive state championships, delivering standout performances even under adversity, such as scoring 16 points in a state semifinal with a broken hand and 20 points in the title game. As a senior, he averaged nearly 19 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists per game, leading his team to a 27-2 record. On the adidas 3SSB circuit with the Compton Magic, Peat posted averages of 20 points and eight rebounds. Internationally, Peat has been a key figure for USA Basketball. He helped the USA U19 team win the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup in Switzerland, averaging 12 points and seven rebounds. With that gold, he became the first player from any country to win two FIBA junior World Cup gold medals in three years. Peat also contributed to gold medals at the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup, the 2023 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, and the 2024 FIBA U17 World Cup. He was named the 2023 USA Basketball Male Player of the Year and selected for the 2025 USA Nike Hoop Summit team. Peat is known for his physicality, basketball IQ, and versatility. He excels in the mid-post, can handle the ball effectively for his size, and is a consistent double-double threat. While his three-point shooting remains a work in progress—he shot 29% from deep on the 3SSB circuit—his touch and mechanics suggest room for improvement. Defensively, he averages over three combined steals and blocks per game and is a strong presence on the glass. Coming from a family with a rich athletic background—his father, Todd Sr., played in the NFL and his siblings have competed at collegiate and professional levels—Peat brings maturity and leadership beyond his years. As he begins his collegiate career at Arizona, expectations are high for Peat to make an immediate impact and continue his upward trajectory.
