NHL Source: Bruins ‘Pretty Much Out’ on Rasmus Andersson

According to an NHL source, the Boston Bruins are “pretty much out” of the NHL trade market for Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson.

“They’re pretty much out on him,” the trusted source told Ratings on Thursday night.

“Unless Andersson changes his mind and says he will entertain a contract extension with them, or they make an incredible offer and (Flames GM) Craig Conroy can’t resist, he’s not going there. As of now, he’s not signing an extension with the Bruins.”

“I also think the Senators are out too,” the source added.

As reported by Research Ground on Wednesday, the Senators and Bruins, along with the Detroit Red Wings, were three teams engaged in NHL trade discussions with the Flames in an effort to acquire Andersson, who is in the final season of a six-year, $27.3 million ($4.5M AAV) contract. Andersson has a six-team modified no-trade clause, but the Flames have been more than willing to find a fit that makes sense for him.

“Keep an eye on the Senators, Bruins, and Red Wings,” an NHL executive had said earlier this week.

“The Bruins made an offer,” another NHL source said on Monday night. “I’m hearing that Mason Lohrei and the Bruins’ first-round pick are in play.”

Offer Details and Shifting Focus

Ratings confirmed again on Wednesday that Lohrei was indeed in play, and that the first-round pick was actually the Toronto Maple Leafs’ first-round pick that the Bruins acquired at the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline when they traded Brandon Carlo to Toronto and also netted the Bruins’ current rookie forward, Fraser Minten. The Bruins also still own their own 2026 first-round pick.

“This has been and really is a very fluid situation,” the source told Ratings. “The Bruins have targeted Andersson for a while now, and they wanted him, but it’s just not looking good for them now, and I’m not sure it ever was. I was told today that Andersson has two teams he really wants to extend with, so the Flames are now focused on them.”

The Vegas Golden Knights, Anaheim Ducks, and Dallas Stars have also expressed interest in Rasmus Andersson, and a new source told Ratings on Thursday night that Andersson was “definitely interested” in the Stars and Knights.

“I keep hearing that he’s definitely interested in them, but you never know; it could change,” the same source said. “I think Toronto wants in on him too, but I’m not sure they have the goods to get him or that he’d extend.”

Andersson, 29, has 10 goals and 19 assists in 47 games this season. The six-foot-1, 201-pound rearguard has lit the lamp 57 times and amassed 203 assists in 583 regular-season games. He has seven goals and seven assists in 27 Stanley Cup playoff games.
